Arby’s is ready to kick things off this year by bringing back one of their most popular items, Arby’s King’s Hawaiian Fish Deluxe Sandwich!
When it comes to fish sandwiches, Arby’s is definitely in contention of being amongst the top two, if not the best.
Their King’s Hawaiian Fish Deluxe Sandwich will feature a crispy fish fillet that will be topped off with cheddar cheese, tomato, shredded lettuce, and tartar sauce all of which will be inside a delicious toasted King’s Hawaiian roll to bring it all together.
The only catch is that it is here for a limited time! Some of the most common critiques about this sandwich last year besides how delicious it tasted was an excessive amount of tartar sauce.
Also the shredded lettuce flew everywhere and it got a bit messy. Let us see if they have made any changes by grabbing one for ourselves.
Buying Arby’s King’s Hawaiian Fish Deluxe Sandwich
The easiest way to get your hands on Arby’s King’s Hawaiian Fish Deluxe Sandwich is through any of the fast food delivery services such as Uber Eats, or you can simply pick up the order in person at a participating location.
My preference is always to pick up the item in person. Surprisingly the nearest Arby’s to me is about 12 miles away!
I do not mind the drive to one of their locations as it is always a positive experience. As I was pulling up, I could see a few cars waiting in the parking lot so I figured it would be best to go inside and order in person.
There were a few customers that were dining in as well. I was immediately greeted by the staff upon entering and proceeded to place my order. I was only interested in trying Arby’s King’s Hawaiian Fish Deluxe Sandwich, so I did just that and ordered the sandwich without any fries or beverage.
I waited for about five to six minutes and my order arrived quickly. The total for my order with tax came out to $6.81.
You can always get it as a meal with a price of around $10.49 for a medium or $11.29 for a large.
The price seems to be decent considering the promotional image, so let us see how it actually looks.
How Does Arby’s King’s Hawaiian Fish Deluxe Sandwich Look Like
Even inside the wrapping Arby’s King’s Hawaiian Fish Deluxe Sandwich seemed bigger than the palm of my hand.
The Hawaiian buns seemed to have been pressed slightly as they looked a bit squished in appearance. However, even with the buns pressed in, the Sandwich looked very thick.
After lifting the top bun open, I could see a decent amount of tartar sauce.
There was also a slice of cheddar cheese that was somewhat melted, so it looked a little off as it’s been sitting outside before hardening.
That semi-melted piece of cheddar was sitting on top of a delicious looking breaded fish fillet. To my surprise, the fish fillet was so big, it was even sticking outside of the buns.
Right underneath the fish fillet, there were a few pieces of tomato and some shredded lettuce.
I’m guessing Arby’s definitely listened to their customers and reviewers as this year there was a considerably less amount of tartar sauce on the sandwich.
Also the shredded lettuce compared to last year was considerably less which prevents the situation from getting too messy.
Now the sandwich definitely looks amazing so let’s find out how it tastes.
How Does Arby’s King’s Hawaiian Fish Deluxe Sandwich Taste Like
Right as you bite into the sandwich you are greeted with the signature King’s Hawaiian roll which is soft, and slightly fluffy, and more importantly provides you with that sweet sensation.
The perfect way to balance out any sweet flavors is to have seasoning or sauces that provide a salty or tart taste.
The tartar sauce used by Arby’s is the perfect pairing with the King’s Hawaiian roll. Thankfully, there’s only a decent amount of the tartar sauce, so it doesn’t necessarily overpower any other flavors.
Surprisingly, the next flavor that I was able to taste was that of the fish fillet. This left me a bit puzzled, because the slice of cheddar cheese was clearly visible but I could not taste it whatsoever.
My brain was telling me I should be tasting something because I could physically see it, yet my taste buds couldn’t differentiate any specific flavors coming from the cheddar.
The fish fillet was very delightful. The breading was extremely thin, and the meat inside was super soft and cooked to a perfect temperature.
The tomatoes still had a crunch to them which is nice because usually I have received and expect soggy tomatoes from other fish sandwiches.
The lettuce was fresh as well which I could taste by its crisp texture.
As I mentioned before, by using a smaller amount of shredded lettuce, it made the sandwich a lot less messier to eat.
With so many good qualities inside this fish sandwich is there any room for improvement?
How Can Arby’s King’s Hawaiian Fish Deluxe Sandwich Be Improved
I do not think there is much that can be improved on Arby’s King’s Hawaiian Fish Deluxe Sandwich.
The only issue I had was with the slice of cheddar cheese used in this sandwich.
Considering it was absolutely flavorless, it could possibly be replaced with another cheese that would go well on fish fillets.
Mainly I was thinking of either American Cheese or better yet a slice of pepper jack cheese. The American cheese would not overpower the tartar sauce nor would it take away from the actual fish fillet.
Similarly I feel the pepper jack cheese would add a whole new level of flavor in this sandwich. It might slightly affect the tartar sauce flavor, but this is only a suggestion.
Overall Thoughts
Arby’s King’s Hawaiian Fish Deluxe Sandwich in all honesty is one of the best fish fillet sandwiches I have had over the last four or five years.
Even with the useless cheddar cheese, each bite was just about perfect. From the sweetness of the King’s Hawaiian rolls, the ever so lightly breaded fish fillet, the crispy tomato and shredded lettuce, to the perfect amount of tartar sauce.
I would easily go buy one of these without any hesitation as it was so good. Arby’s has the meats!
More importantly this fish fillet sandwich is something that everyone should try at least once before it is gone.
Overall Score: 9.4
