As you know the Seafood Season is here and fast food restaurants from all around are bringing out their popular fish sandwiches for people to enjoy. One of which being Burger King actually not only brought back their Classic Fish Sandwich but also the Fiery Big Fish Sandwich.
Now I never tried the Fiery Big Fish Sandwich before from Burger King, which made me quite curious. I have tried the Classic version and I thought that was decent, but seeing a spicy version on the menu definitely made me want to try.
So lets head on over to Burger King and buy the Fiery Big Fish Sandwich and do a food review on it!
What Is Burger King’s Fiery Big Fish Sandwich
For those who don’t know, Burger King’s Fiery Big Fish Sandwich is basically the “Spicy Version” of their popular Fish Sandwich.
In fact, it’s basically the same ingredients as the Classic Fish Sandwich just made spicier.
According to Burger King’s website, the Fiery Big Fish Sandwich features White Alaskan Pollock filet with a crispy panko breading, sweet tartar sauce, lettuce and crunchy pickles on a toasted bun.
It doesn’t really mention any ingredient or sauce that is going to make it spicy though, which got me quite confused. I thought there was going to be spicy mayo or spicy seasoning, but they didn’t mention it at all.
So let’s go buy it and investigate for ourselves.
Buying Burger King’s Fiery Big Fish Sandwich
Upon hearing the news of this item coming to the menu, I headed to my car and drove to the nearest Burger King I could find. And fortunately for me, it was only a 5 minutes drive as it was extremely close to my house.
I got there and saw that there was nobody in the drive-thru lane so that was the place I decided was best to order.
After getting in line, I could see the menu flash the Fiery Big Fish Sandwich picture in a small little corner of the screen. I was somewhat laughing because after a few seconds it disappeared to showcase the other menu items.
I felt like Burger King themselves didn’t really want to showcase this sandwich all that much.
Either way, I decided to place an order for one Fiery Big Fish Sandwich. And after driving up to the pick-up window, the price for the sandwich was $3.99 before tax. Which is actually a pretty cheap price if you were to ask me.
Anyways, after waiting around 5 minutes they brought my item bag to me and it was off to do the review!
What Does Burger King’s Fiery Big Fish Sandwich Look Like
Taking the sandwich out of the bag, you can see that it is wrapped in Burger Kings typical paper wrapping. But on the wrapper it also has the words “F” on it, which probably meant for fish.
Anyways, I unwrapped the wrapper and saw the Fiery Big Fish Sandwich.
And honestly, doesn’t really look like a “Big” Fish Sandwich, but I guess its just a fun way to name it.
From the top view, nothing really stands out as it looks like a plain boring sandwich. You only see a small corner of the fish sticking out with maybe a shred of lettuce poking out as well.
Although looking at the fish patty, it did look a little dark. Not sure if that’s normal or the oil is old or something, but usually fish patties are much brighter in color.
Opening up the sandwich you can see that there is actually a generous amount of lettuce all kind of glued to the top bun, while you see two pickles on the fish patty. You don’t see any ingredient or anything showcasing that this will be spicy so I am curious on how they are going to incorporate that in.
Either way, I’m getting hungry so lets get into this review!
What Does Burger King’s Fiery Big Fish Sandwich Taste Like
I grabbed the Fiery Big Fish Sandwich and noticed it was quite light to hold.
Then I took a big bite into it.
And instantly, I could tell that this was going to be very different than the Classic Fish Sandwich.
Immediately, the first thing you notice is just how crispy and crunchy the outside breading is for the fish. They must have fried this patty for a good while cause this thing had enough crunch to shatter a mountain.
Not only that, the heat and spice came a few seconds after and you could feel it start to get warm all around you. The spice isn’t overpowering or anything but its good enough where it kind of trembles your tongue and makes you want to drink something cooling to keep the spice down.
When they said this was going to be called “Fiery Big Fish Sandwich”, they actually mean the Fiery part.
And I was honestly impressed by the heat as it’s probably one of the hotter fish sandwiches that I have tried in fast food.
Also, I noticed the fish filet itself which is a White Alaskan Pollock, is actually cooked quite nice. It was soft, tender and flaky with a clean seafood flavor.
But other than that, everything else was just okay.
The lettuce itself felt like it was all types of old having no crisp to them. In fact, they aren’t even vibrantly green as they probably have been sitting there for quite some time. And the tartar sauce, was probably one of the weakest flavors of tartar sauce that I tried.
Burger King said the tartar sauce was sweet, but when you’re eating the sandwich, you could barely even notice it. You do feel the creamy sensations going on from it, but not much flavor. There is no tang, no sweet no acidity or anything.
Thankfully the sandwich itself did have some spice to it to give your mouth a kick from the heat which definitely helped the experience. Otherwise this would have been a letdown.
How Can Burger King’s Fiery Big Fish Sandwich Be Improved
I have to say, Burger King’s Fiery Big Fish Sandwich is definitely interesting. It might not be the biggest fish sandwich in fast food, but it sure does pack a good hit from the heat and spice. But that alone doesn’t make it great though.
I feel like if Burger King wants to make their sandwich above the rest, they have to make their ingredients a lot more flavorful.
That tartar sauce definitely needs some reworking as it barely had any flavor in it at all. Not to mention their lettuce needs to be a lot fresher or crisp. Maybe they should add some other items to this to spruce it up a little, just my opinion.
Either way, it could definitely be better.
Overall Thoughts:
With that being said, Burger King’s Fiery Big Fish Sandwich is not the worst fish sandwich you’ll ever try. In fact, it’s probably a bit above average. But it does need a few tweaking’s to make it perfect. But if you’re a fan of fish sandwiches or Burger King in general, I do think you all should try it out.
Especially if you love spice and heat, because this fish sandwich definitely has that!
