The development and marketing team at KFC are continuously coming up with innovative ideas to please their existing fans and simultaneously attracting new customers as well!
If you remember last year, KFC did a test run on their Smash’d Potato Bowls around certain locations in Pittsburg, PA, and it seems to have been a huge hit.
Thanks to that successful performance and demand, KFC is now making their Smash’d Potato Bowl available nationwide at all participating locations!
These bowls will include their Secret Recipe Fries, mashed potatoes covered with warm cheese sauce, crispy bacon crumbles, which is all topped off with an amazing three cheese blend.
How do you make that sound even more desirable? Simple, there is an option to have the Smash’d Potato Bowl topped off with five hand-breaded KFC nuggets.
For an additional $2 you can get KFC’s Smash’d Potato Bowl with Nuggets!

Buying KFC’s Smash’d Potato Bowl With Nuggets
Getting your hands on KFC’s Smash’d Potato Bowl with Nuggets can be easily done by ordering from fast food services such as Uber eats, or DoorDash, or simply ordering directly at a participating location to pick up in person.
I always prefer to order my food either via the app or directly at the store to pick it up myself.
Every location can be a hit or miss and I’ve been to multiple KFC’s throughout the town, where my wait times have ranged from as little as four minutes to all the way up to 25 minutes.
The KFC location I went to this time was actually one I had not seen in a while as it was a KFC and Taco Bell in one spot.
The drive-thru line was wrapped around the corner, and there were about 5 to 6 customers waiting in store in addition to a few more dining in.
I was there to check out all the hype that was surrounding the smash’d potato bowls. For an additional $2 I could purchase the smash’d bowl with those amazing nuggets, so you know I just had to get that.
They’re only a few employees working in the store. Considering how many people were already waiting inside and outside, I knew it was going to be a little bit of a wait.
After about 15 minutes I received my order and I only ordered the smash’d bowl with nuggets without any beverages so my total with tax came out to $6.89.
How Does KFC’s Smash’d Potato Bowl With Nuggets Look Like
The smash potato bowl was a bit larger than I had imagined.
The contents of the bowl were still pretty hot and not only could you feel the heat but you could see all the steam inside the closed container.
As soon as I opened the lid, I could see the container was packed with chicken nuggets on the top.
I am not sure if this is usually the case, but it seemed like they had packed a very generous portion of the chicken nuggets inside the bowl.
I started to stir the contents with a fork to see exactly what all was in there. You could see the mashed potatoes along with fries that were dipped in the cheese sauce. There was a good amount of bacon crumbles throughout the bowl.
Even after mixing the bowl, it still looked like you would be able to get a piece of every ingredient in each bite.
The chicken nuggets as usual at KFC are fried to perfection with the golden brown exterior and crunchy texture. The mashed potatoes looked very smooth and I didn’t notice any clumps even after stirring the bowl.
The fries that were on the side and on the bottom still looked golden in color without any burnt edges. A few of the fries were actually still slightly crispy.
There was a small portion of fries that had become slightly soggy as it was covered under the mashed potatoes, cheese sauce, and the triple cheese blend, which is understandable.
As I mentioned before the bite size pieces of bacon crumbles were spread throughout the bowl.
Visually the bowl looked incredible and I could not wait to dig in, so let’s see if it tastes as good as it looked.
How Does KFC’s Smash’d Potato Bowl With Nuggets Tastes Like
The first item I was actually looking forward to trying out was the chicken nuggets. Let me tell you that the first bite did not disappoint at all!
There was a good crunch as I bit into the outer chicken nugget. The chicken itself was delicious white meat chicken, which was moist and flavorful.
After stirring up the bowl, just about every bite had all four or five components in there, which definitely made the overall experience much better.
The mashed potatoes were very pillowy, smooth textured, without any chunks or clumps in it.
The fries, as I mentioned earlier, while somewhat soggy, were still very flavorful.
The triple cheese blend and cheese sauce added a whole new layer of flavors and seemed like the perfect pairing with the fries inside the smashed potato bowl.
The bacon crumbles were super crispy but not overcooked to the point where they give off a bitter taste.
That is a very important distinction because of how they were spread throughout the bowl.
Overall every bite was very filling. When you combine KFC’s chicken nuggets, fries, mashed potatoes, cheese sauce, and bacon bits together, there is one flavor that will definitely stand out…which is how salty the overall dish will be.
As you can imagine, there was definitely an abundance of salty flavor throughout the bowl.
How Can KFC’s Smash’d Potato Bowl With Nuggets Be Improved
To be honest, everything in the bowl feels like it is on point in terms of flavors.
The main concern that remains is the amount of salt. There are two possible options I think with one being more realistic.
To adjust the salt level, they could adjust the amount of salt that is added to their “spice mix” or create another special blend for this promotional item.
The only drawback is that it would create a lot of additional work and would not be a good financial decision for either permanent or limited time items.
They could always consider adding some sweet corn? It would not be something too strange as corn goes well with mashed potatoes!
The sweetness could also perhaps balance out the overall salty flavor.
Overall Thoughts
I feel like KFC’s Smash’d Potato Bowl With Nuggets or even the original KFC’s Smash’d Potato Bowl are an excellent addition to their menu, even if it is just for a limited time.
There is very much the possibility that the bowl without the nuggets would have less salty taste.
Ultimately it also depends on an individual’s palette, because what was a bit over salted for me might be perfectly salted for someone else.
Regardless, I would highly recommend trying this out if you are a fan or even someone who has yet to try anything at KFC.
Overall Score: 8.8
