So Popeyes has just teamed up with TRUFF Brand, and created an a new version of their Chicken Sandwich being the Spicy TRUFF Chicken Sandwich.
Now at first glance, this sounds absolutely delicious!
After all, Popeyes is famously known for having some of the best Chicken Sandwiches in the fast food game. So seeing them add a sauce that brings in a delicious Truffle aroma and flavor to it, definitely peaks my interest.
This sandwich sounds like it’s going to be really good!
And I cannot wait any longer, so let’s go try out Popeyes new Spicy TRUFF Chicken Sandwich.
Buying The Spicy TRUFF Chicken Sandwich
I headed out the door immediately after I heard the news and drove to my nearest Popeyes location as fast as I could. I was expecting a long line because of how popular Popeyes is, and the creation of the new sandwich will definitely draw in a lot of people.
However, when I got there, it was empty.
The drive-thru lane had no cars and the parking lot had only like two cars in the entire area which surprised me. Did nobody know that this item was released? Either way, I drove into the drive-thru lane and saw that they had many varieties that you can order.
For instance, you can get the Spicy TRUFF Chicken Sandwich, the Spicy TRUFF Blackened Chicken Sandwich, the Spicy TRUFF Bacon & Cheese Chicken Sandwich, and even the Spicy TRUFF Blackened Bacon & Cheese Chicken Sandwich.
I opted for the Spicy TRUFF Bacon & Cheese Chicken Sandwich.
I drove to the window and it came out to around $11.49 in my area, which was extremely expensive for a Chicken Sandwich. That TRUFF Sauce must be an expensive ingredient or it must taste amazing for such a high cost.
Anyways, I waited like 2 minutes and then they handed me my bag and it was off to the races!
What Does The Spicy TRUFF Chicken Sandwich Look Like?
Taking out the item from the Popeyes bag, you can see that the sandwich itself is in a foil bag that is typically used for chicken sandwiches at many fast food places.
And after opening it up, you can see the beautiful sandwich inside being held together by a paper wrap which I look to call a diaper as it holds the item from falling out.
But taking the Spicy TRUFF Chicken Sandwich out of the paper wrap, you can see that it looks really good! There was quite a few items in this sandwich and you could even smell the fried sensation of the chicken.
As you know, the Spicy TRUFF Chicken Sandwich consists of two toasted brioche buns, the brand’s signature classic chicken filet, barrel cured pickle and also TRUFF’s Spicy mayo. It was a simple sandwich in nature, but one that looked great.
I also got a side of TRUFF Sauce as you can see on the side.
With that being said, lets see how this tastes!
What Does The Spicy TRUFF Chicken Sandwich Taste Like?
I picked up the sandwich and took a bite out of it. And I had to say, it tasted really good! Like you get the same great taste that you know and love from the Popeyes Spicy Chicken Sandwich, but also the TRUFF Sauce gave it a more richer and deeper flavor.
That TRUFF Sauce definitely stands out and you can clearly taste a strong range of truffle flavors and aroma coming out of the sandwich.
It was delicious!
The sandwich itself was beautifully constructed as the buns itself was soft and pillowy, the bacon was definitely cooked properly where it was extremely crispy and the cheese had a nice mild taste. Although the cheese wasn’t really melted all the way to my liking, it still was good.
Then you got to the chicken filet which as you know, Popeyes plays no games and their chicken is one of the best in the game. Super crispy on the outside with a thin batter and the chicken meat on the inside was juicy and tender. It also had a fair bit of spice where you can feel your mouth tingling around and your body starts to warm up.
But now for the star of the show which was the TRUFF Sauce, and I had to say it paired really nicely together with the chicken sandwich. The sauce itself gave the sandwich a really creamy feel that was smooth and also had a nice earthy flavor which wasn’t overpowering.
It made sure the chicken sandwich was still the highlight of the meal while the TRUFF Sauce felt like a sidekick that paired nicely together with it. In my opinion, I think it was a great combination and one that Popeyes truly have done well with.
Trying TRUFF Sauce With Other Items
Aside from the Spicy TRUFF Chicken Sandwich, Popeyes has also encouraged customers to buy a side of TRUFF Sauce and try it with many other items.
And that’s exactly what I did!
The TRUFF Sauce they give you is in a small container and I really wish they gave us more. It felt like a small amount which made me a bit sad as I really liked the TRUFF Sauce.
Either way, I grabbed the Popeyes fries and dunked it in the sauce, then took a bite. This was literally like eating Truffle Fries but with a side of Cajun spice. One of the best combinations I have ever tried! Popeyes fries are also really popular as the Cajun flavor is great with a bit of smoky sensations, garlicy feel and some heat. But then you pair it up with the earth feel from the TRUFF Sauce and it was delicious.
I also tried it with the Mac and Cheese, and honestly it was good but not as good as the fries or Spicy Chicken Sandwich combination. Like, it gave the Mac and Cheese the earthy aroma that you would expect from the sauce, but the cheese was a bit overpowering and kind of clashes together with it taking over the flavor.
But still, trying to mix and match items with the TRUFF Sauce was a brilliant move from Popeyes.
How Can The Spicy TRUFF Chicken Sandwich Be Improved?
Being as how the TRUFF Sauce is made from a different company and this is a partnership between Popeyes and TRUFF, there’s not really much that can be done.
It was a great partnership and one which delivered in great flavor and taste.
I would say though the only thing that I would like to see changed is actually not with the food but with the price. As you know, at least in my area, the Spicy TRUFF Chicken Sandwich is being listed at $11.49 before tax. That is extremely expensive for just one chicken sandwich.
And I mean I get it, TRUFF Sauce is expensive but you have to realize that this is an item being served at a fast food location which generally only sells cheap and affordable items. Having an item costing $11.49 just for a sandwich and not even a combo is just way too expensive.
If they lowered the price a fair bit, then it would be a more appealing item for many people.
Overall Thoughts
With that being said, Popeyes has outdone themselves this time with the release of the new Spicy TRUFF Chicken Sandwich.
Mostly because, fans from all over already know how great the Popeyes Chicken Sandwich is, but once they paired it up with the TRUFF Sauce, it was a game changer. It added much more flavor and depths that helped elevate the sandwich even higher.
Definitely one of the best items they released this year.
