Earlier this week, Sonic Drive-In has just released a new side item for people to try.
This new item being called the new “Buffalo Chicken Dip Bites”.
For those that don’t know, the New Buffalo Chicken Dip Bites features juicy chicken, buffalo sauce, and melty cheddar cheese blended together and then stuffed and fried in a crispy, golden-brown wrapper.
Because of this, it sounds absolutely delicious, so you know we here at Food Senpai have to try.
From what we know, this item is only going to be around for a limited time, so lets try it before its gone.
Buying The Food:
Customers who want to buy the food will be happy to know that it’s very simple to do so.
You don’t have to use the app or anything to get it as you can just walk right up the the cashier and ask for it.
The new Buffalo Chicken Dip Bites comes in the sizes of 3, 5 and 7 piece options, with the cheapest starting around $2.99.
What Does It Look Like:
Now we opted for the 5 Piece option and it came to around $4.64, which in my opinion was pretty expensive if you ask me.
As you can see, when you order the Buffalo Chicken Dip Bites, they come in this huge paper bag that seems way to big for the item.
Looking inside, you can tell that the bites are super small in size.
When I took one out the bag, I was honestly surprised, it literally looked like a fried ravioli.
Very interesting.
Super crispy on the outside and you can get a slight scent of the buffalo sauce they used on the inside.
But size wise, it was the length of my thumb which was pretty small. I was hoping for it to be a bit bigger, but hopefully the flavor is where its at.
What Did It Taste Like:
Upon biting into the new Buffalo Chicken Dip Bites, immediately I can feel the fried shell shatter in my mouth.
It was crispy and crunchy, and also a bit flaky too which was very nice.
Then you get to the inside, and you notice that strong buffalo flavor. The sauce itself was quite overpowering, as I wasn’t expecting the buffalo sauce to be that strong. There was a strong vinegar and acidic flare with a good buffalo essence.
Flavor wise, it was quite good.
However, as you kept chewing, then you’ll notice that the rest of the item didn’t live up to the hype.
The chicken meat inside felt like some sort of shredded chicken, it was easy to chew but was super dry. It felt like they overcooked the chicken itself and took away any moisture or wetness the chicken had. And because the buffalo sauce was kind of dried onto the chicken, it was just dry on dry on dry.
I definitely needed a sip of a drink to help finish this item.
But not only that, aside from the dryness, I noticed that you couldn’t even feel or taste any of the cheese flavor.
There was suppose to be some sort of melted cheddar cheese inside but the buffalo sauce was so overpowering that the cheese just disappeared. Not to mention, you don’t even get any gooey cheesy pulls or anything.
It was kind of a letdown.
How Can It Be Improved:
Honestly, I was expecting this item to be so much more tastier.
But don’t get me wrong, the flavor was actually quite good. I loved the crispy shell and also the buffalo sauce that was inside of the buffalo chicken dip bites. But everything else needed to be improved.
What I would do is to instead of letting the buffalo sauce dry onto the chicken, make it still moist or wet so there is some lubrication with each and every bite. Not only that, but I want the chicken to also be cooked better where its still juicy with each bite.
I want to feel an explosion of chicken essence or sauce flowing into my mouth.
And also, I need more cheese.
I was told there was going to be cheddar cheese on the inside, but it felt like there was none. I need a lot more cheese to be put on the inside to give it that cheesy sensation that it needs.
Other than that, if those things can be fixed, it’ll be so much better.
Overall Thoughts:
Overall, Sonic Drive-Ins New Buffalo Chicken Dip Bites do have potential, but failed in the execution.
Flavor wise it was great, as the buffalo essence really shined here. But everything else needed to be improved.
I would say, if you are wanting to try out this item, definitely pair it up with some type of sauce or something. Like marinara for instance, to help give it that wetness that you want. Otherwise, it’ll be way to dry to enjoy.
