Taco Bell recently did a poll to see which old menu item they should bring back for a limited time.
And due to popular demand, the Beefy Crunch Burrito has won and is now back on the menu for people to try.
In fact, the Beefy Crunch Burrito from Taco Bell officially comes out on the 3rd of August, 2023, but for those who have the app and are reward members, they can actually get the burrito today starting August 1, 2023.
Because of this, you know I had to get my hands on it and give it a try.
And from what we know so far, just like before, Taco Bells Beefy Crunch Burrito is only going to be around for a limited time only.
Buying The Food:
Since it is not officially out yet, and the only way you can order this item is by being a rewards member and using the app, that’s exactly what I did.
I played the order on the app and noticed that it was $2.49 cents for 1 Beefy Crunch Burrito.
I also took a look at the ingredients and found it to be very similar to the Beefy Melt Burrito that is already on the menu.
In fact, when you look at the two burrito’s side by side and also their ingredients:
Taco Bell’s Beefy Crunch Burrito: features seasoned beef, nacho cheese sauce, reduced-fat sour cream, seasoned rice and Fritos Flamin Hot Chips.
Price: $2.49
Taco Bell’s Beefy Melt Burrito: features seasoned beef, nacho cheese sauce, reduced-fat sour cream, seasoned rice, three cheese blend, and fiesta strips.
Price: $2.00
If you noticed, both the items are literally the same, except the Beefy Melt Burrito has three cheese blend and fiesta strips instead of the Flamin Hot Chips. But what’s even weirder is that the Beefy Melt Burrito, although it has more ingredients, is actually $0.49 cents cheaper than the New Beefy Crunch Burrito.
So I’m asking myself, why am I paying $0.49 cents more for a burrito that is the exact same as the other one, but without the three cheese blend and a bit of spice?
Is it that much more worth it? I don’t know..
But anyways, after placing my order, it took about 5 minutes before they gave me my burritos.
Now it’s time to do the review.
What Does It Look Like:
As you can see, just like their other burritos that they make, Taco Bell has wrapped up the burrito nicely and even labeled it as the Beefy C (Short for Beefy Crunch).
And immediately, I could already smell that seasoned beef which is ever so strong and quite aromatic.
I decided to open up the burrito to take a look at the inside.
I noticed that my burrito had quite a bit of filling. It had a good ratio of seasoned beef, seasoned rice, nacho cheese sauce, and sour cream. But what I was most interested was the Fritos Flamin Hot Chips, which I noticed was crushed into various sizes.
I thought the hot chips was going to be a bit bigger kind of like the fiesta strips, but they were pretty small. And the red powder on them coated the tortilla quite heavily.
Hopefully it tastes good though, lets see how it tastes.
What Did It Taste Like:
After taking a few bites out of the Beefy Crunch Burrito from Taco Bell, I noticed it was literally the same as the other Beefy Melt Burrito.
The only thing different was that this isn’t as cheesy and it had a tiny little spicy kick going on.
But other than that, it was literally the same.
Tortilla itself was soft and warm, also a bit chewy too. But once you get to the inside, immediately you notice the seasoned rice, which I think they put a bit too much in my burrito. Sure the rice tasted nice, it had flavor and was fluffy, but it felt kind of dry.
Because the burrito has so much rice, it kind of took away the moisture that was in my mouth giving me a somewhat of a dry feeling.
But other than that, everything else was decent.
I loved the seasoned beef, it was moist and tender while having a bunch of seasonings on it which gave it that savory yet earthy type of feel. Mixed with the nacho cheese for a bit of a mild and cheesy taste and the sour cream which gave a creamy yet light feel that was ever so delicious.
However, the star of the show is the Fritos Flamin Hot Chips, which I had to say was kind of disappointing. Sure it had a crispy crunch to it, but I was expecting heat. I was expecting fire or a burning sensation to happen. But none of it came. I just felt a tiny little tickle that went away after a few seconds, it was such a letdown.
Because the burrito barely had any spice to it, it literally felt like the exact same copy as the Beefy Melt burrito that is already on the menu. Exact same textures, exact same ingredients, but without the three cheese blend.
I was questioning myself for ages on this.
How Can It Be Improved:
Being as how the New Beefy Crunch Burrito from Taco Bell is more expensive than the other Beefy Melt Burrito, I was expecting there to be more ingredients in here to make it worth it. That or having at least something unique to where you can tell there is a difference.
But at the moment, there is no such thing.
It’s literally the same thing almost.
Personally for me, I would say make the chips A LOT spicier, because at the moment there is barely any spice. I want to feel the devil burning inside of me. Basically, give me the similar spice level as the Lava Sauce that you all have on the menu right now.
Actually, that sounds perfect, why not add the Lava Sauce inside together with the Nacho Cheese Sauce to help give it that burning sensation.
Also, maybe put less rice in the burrito next time too as too much rice definitely kind of made it feel dry.
If this burrito was also priced a bit cheaper like around $2.00, it was make sense and totally feel worth it.
Other than those things, can’t really think of much else being as how the burrito is currently priced at and made. If those few things were fixed, it definitely would be a lot better.
Overall Thoughts:
Overall, I have to say Taco Bell’s New Beefy Crunch Burrito definitely has potential as the flavor is quite good. However, actual execution on how they made it, wasn’t really great.
I loved the idea of a cheap burrito that was filling and delicious, but when you offer something that is identical to another item on the menu but with less ingredients at a higher price, it doesn’t make sense.
I would say, if you want to try this burrito out, it’s honestly not bad. However, its a bit pricey and not really as spicy as one expects it to be. Personally if you get this, I would say pair it up with a side of Lava Sauce to give it that real heat that it needs.
Overall Rating: 7.0
Hope you have a wonderful day~
